Be The Pond!

angie03212

I am attaching a link to another great exercise that can be adapted to use in less than a minute! After learning the exercise, I suggest the following: When noticing observable challenging feelings in your child suggest that they "Be the Pond". Ask them to tell you out loud what they are noticing in their bodies. For practice I would suggest laying down at bedtime and taking turns with your child. The simplest version can go like this:

Imagine that you are a big blue pond, and your waters are calmly moving about. Look around and notice what the weather is like and how cold or hot your waters are. Notice any feelings you have and imagine that they are fish swimming around. What colors are those feeling fish? Let them swim around as slowly or as fast as they want to and just notice how they swim. Pay attention to how they are only a small part of your big pond and they come and go and never stay. Do you notice anything else about your pond? Notice your breath and open your eyes when you are ready.
