When everything feels too much...

"What's wrong with me?" We all have some fear of being flawed and unworthy and many of us suffer because of how painfully burdened we feel by a sense of not being good enough. You are not alone.

I don't see my clients as problems to be fixed but, as complicated humans with some big
(and not so big)burdens to bear.

How I can help

Counseling Center

I have extensive training in modalities supported by years of scientific research in the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, grief and many other areas of emotional distress.  I don't use anything with clients that I don't also use in my own life. Whether you are experiencing life event stress or suffering from chronic and debilitating symptoms of anxiety and trauma I am here to work beside you. The sessions are most often very experiential -Clients have taught me that practicing the skills in session is more helpful than just being told about them. Dealing with painful emotions in the moment is such hard work. It can be uncomfortable at first, but this is how you can make real change happen. We begin to turn this vulnerability into a strength.

Individual Counseling

Change!!- It's coming for you at this age and it's one of the most difficult things to navigate. During this change, anxiety begins to show up or becomes more intense. Many begin to isolate themselves and lose a sense of who they are and what matters. Others connect but don't like how they treat themselves and others. I love being a part of helping teens learn how to turn change into their greatest strength. You can get past the fear and anxiety to be the person you want to be.You can find your passion, energy and drive to overcome anything. I'll help you decide who you'll become with all of your heart. We won't just sit and talk but find active ways you enjoy to learn skills and strategies. Skills are not a 'one size fits all' in the approach I use.  We will find the right fit for you.

Providing Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) both in the office and via TeleHealth. It is the gold standard of treatment for children under the age of seven presenting with a wide spectrum of behavioral concerns. PCIT treats the more severe forms of oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and attention deficit disorder (ADHD). It addresses less disruptive levels of non-compliance and tantrum behaviors. Research also shows is effectiveness in treating anxiety.

Younger clients respond well to experiential methods that allow the expression of their creativity. This is why I use and love the DNA-V model. It is an evidenced based model that promotes psychological strength to help young people cope with challenges, stress and change. I've been trained in TF-CBT to treat trauma in young children, and I have found it equally successful with younger kiddos. Both of these models allow me to adjust the strategies to fit the child's personality and interests. I have the flexibility of incorporating more of the play and art exercises which creates a safe place to be vulnerable.

I bring into our sessions methods of both Eastern and Western psychology. I take ideas about human wisdom and happiness that have been around for 100's of years and tie them to modern strategies based on the science of human behavior.

Want to know more about how we will work together?

We are all in the same boat. I too get caught up in my thoughts, lose touch with my values and struggle to do what will make my life better. I won't tell you what is 'right' or 'wrong' with your choices because I am not the expert on your life. However, you wouldn't be coming to see me if I didn't have some expertise! I have a particular vantage point due to my experience and training that allows me to be able to help you untangle your stuck patterns and learn more helpful ways of getting what you want from life. No one is past the point of being able to make changes to improve their relationship with themself and others. I am not fearful of jumping into the deep end and getting to the really hard stuff.  I use my heart and intuition to guide me in how direct or more laid back to be in the moment. We might laugh or you might notice me tear up as I do not leave my humanity at home. I take pride in having a keen sense as to when opening up will help v. get in the way of my client's progress. I might show a bit of emotion, but it will only happen because I'm connecting genuinely with you. The therapy room needs to be a safe place for your difficult and often traumatic emotional experiences to be noticed and cared for. I cannot see a way for this to happen if I never allow my own reactions to show up. It is extremely important to me that I present the most evidenced based treatment options and make it clear to you how these treatments will help you reach your goals.  I also know that there is no 'one size fits all' method for any mental health struggle and I need to always be on the lookout for when adjustments need to be made.

Learn to really be in the moment, deal with emotions and be the person you want to be!

  1. It's hard to show others your wise, compassionate side and think quick on your feet when your thoughts are all over the place. Let's help that overworking mind by learning to be more focused and less impulsive.

  2. Everyone avoids unpleasant experiences, and I won't try and talk you into doing anything you don't want to! I will help you figure out when opting out is keeping your world small and taking the zest out of life.

  3. Painful experiences and hurtful emotions can cause us to lose touch with what matters most. You may have once needed to be numb or out of touch to keep moving. Now you want your life back and it's time to figure out what makes you tick.

It is not unusual at all to be unsure of what your core values are.  Especially considering what you may have been through.

Mindfulness Counseling

I am very active and engaged during sessions.  It's not just talking about your problems and feelings and then 'your off into real life'. Here's the thing-as we do this work together, you'll get a better understanding of who you are, how your mind works, and why you do the things you do and what you want out of life. That's a given however, I'll be curious to know after you have all of this understanding, what do you want to do differently? What are you not doing now? What are you doing now but don't want to? I am very goal oriented mostly because it keeps me in line! It helps me stay focused on what you need from our sessions. We will talk openly about whether these sessions are helping you and I want you to notice some progress from session to session. You will leave each session with an action plan for the week.

I will ask you to try new things that may pull you out of your comfort zone-like learning new skills to handle difficult thoughts and feelings-but you never have to do them. You are always free to say no to anything I suggest.

Other clients choose to self-pay only for privacy, as I will have to submit a diagnosis to the insurance company in the Superbill.
