Working with older teens (16-25)
The approach I use is based on the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (because this approach combines so many elements that appeal to young people including mindfulness, traditional CBT methods, and interactive skill-building techniques). You'll decide on what goals you want to work on and move past the 'shoulds, ought to's, and have to's that are so difficult at this age. It's a time when many people find what they've always been told they 'should' do fades as new values emerge. We can work together to make this happen for you and also help the others in your life understand these changes. ACT encourages the development of 'flexible strength' to embrace change and other challenges at this time in your life.
This strength helps you continue on your journey when it's bringing you passion, value, and vitality and to change direction when what you are doing is not making you feel fulfilled. Flexible Strength will help you live your life your way. Specifically, this involves helping you take advantage of the skills you were born with your ability to think, feel and act in ways that help you focus on what matters to get more of what you want in life. I will help you find workable strategies to bring you peace within yourself while you achieve goals that bring you......whatever you want them to bring you.
